My School Look

My First Day of Kindergarten

Can you tell that I'm SUPER excited for school? 

This is me and my friend waiting for our mommys to pick us up.  

I was going to buy a Hello Kitty bag and I'm so glad I didn't. Nearly everyone had one of those. The rest had Disney Princesses all over their bags. And I like my lunch box. It looks like a lady bug! 

I chose my outfit. Skinny jeans with a polo shirt. I thought it was wise.  Nothing too flashy. A bit of understated chic. Casual but fun was what I was going for.

Can you spot my red and white shoes? It's the prettiest one there!!

Check out these shoes. They were the best shoes in the mosque. I wonder who they belong to...

Chinese Food

I went to a Chinese restaurant a few days ago and it was really good. I liked the shrimp, my brothers liked the spicy noodles. At first I was overwhelmed when I saw my plate. I thought I was never going to be able to finish it! 

But with my chopsticks in my hand I dug right in! I didn't eat the french fries though. Chinese restaurants should NEVER serve fries. They can't get it right so they have no business doing that. 

And later we went to Starbucks where my mom let me play with her cellphone. It's a ratty cellphone, nothing wow about it. So I just sat and send random messages to random people. 

Finally Ms. Ghada looked at what I was doing and laughed. 

I love days like these. Spending it with my favorite people and just hanging out!

My Letter

Today I had fun writing a letter to my uncle. Here it is:

I worked so hard on it. No one helped me. 

A Summer Day

A while ago we had a few hours of Summer. I was so happy! I played in the water with my brothers.

Of course then we got wet. 

And I made a new Best Friend! Her name is Tala.

Check out my hair! I got curls and all. 

And I got to dress like a boy! 

It was an awesome summer day.

Tacoma Washington

If you're wondering what mosque to go to, or not to go to, lemme help you out. I went to Tacoma mosque and it was very interesting.

I ran into a fashionista there.

People kept shushing me so I was totally not feeling this smile:

Inside the mosque it was pretty decent. There were nice spots to fall asleep at the back, and it was put to good use during the sermon. I tried to listen as best as I could but wasn't sure what language it was in. 

Some people actually left their credit cards and cellphones inside their shoes.  I was so happy that everyone was so good at that mosque that no one steals from the other, but my mommy said that the cell phone and cards are a testimony of people's stupidity in thinking good of others. 

I discovered garbage under the mosque- no idea why it's there! 

My final word on the mosque? Not kid friendly but it's a nice place to sleep. The sermon was sadly beyond human understanding- it was a jumble of Shakespearean English, poor Arabic, Swahili and a bit of Urdu. Thrown in there was an ancient language, long dead that used to be spoken by the people of Sumner.    

A Little Fashionista!

I love finding fashionistas! Isn't she fashionable? Her name is Zeri Jan and she lives in New York. I LOVE her outfits especially in the first picture! One day we will meet and talk fashion over a cup of tea and warm scones. :)

Sunny Day!

I had a big day! Every Friday is a big day for me! I woke up and saw all the sun, so I of course took pictures.

And then I went with Mommy to the library and just watched people walk by.  It was very interesting. 

And then later I went to my brothers' school and hung out for a while. I wore my new dress. 

And this is a picture from our ride home!

Post #200: Ameena Mirza Qazi and Blueberry Girl

Last night I attended a lecture that Ameena Mirza Qazi gave. Ameena Mirza Qazi is the Deputy Executive Director and Staff Attorney for the Council on American-Islamic Relations-Greater Los Angeles Area Chapter (CAIR-LA), AND she's a hijabi fashionista! I love her scarves! I looked through google and saw amazing pictures of her and her scarves. I'm still not sure if I want to be an artist, or a lawyer, or a pilot, or a teacher- but whatever, I'll wear the prettiest of scarves!

Yes, I know, the quality of the picture is horrendous! I really need a new camera. She talked of our role as Muslims and I think it's awesome that she said there is no 'us' and 'them.' My mommy says that all the time. Even Tariq Ramadan said that. Here is a snippet of the lecture. I apologize for the quality of the video!
